Some
History-
Washingtonville has a history of
over two hundred years, and the residents take great pride in both the
history and the growth of the community. It was first settled in 1731
originally called "Matthews Field". It was later named Washingtonville,
in honor of the late general and first president of the United States,
whom we are told came through and watered his horse at the trough which
had been located under the big tree in the center of the village.
Washingtonville has
something to offer every member of the community. From
entertainment, recreational opportunities, small businesses and
services. The community spirit
is something that has helped Washingtonville prosper and continues to
keep thecommunity strong and growing.
Schools-
Washingtonville Central School
District is made up of five schools; Washingtonville High School,
Washingtonville Middle School, Little Britain Elementary, Taft
Elementary, and Round Hill Elementary.

Some
History-
The village is named after E.H. Harriman,
former president of the Union Pacific railroad. Previously, it was
known as Turner, from the early restaurant of Peter Turner.
In 1950 Harriman had a population of
676. In 2000 census there were 2,252 people, 927 households, and
588 families residing in the village.
Schools:
The Monroe-Woodbury Central School District
is located approximately 45 miles north of New York City and
geographically includes the towns of Monroe, Harriman, most of Woodbury
and parts of Tuxedo, Chester and Blooming Grove. The Monroe-Woodbury
School District serves a population of approximately 35,000 people with
65% employed outside the area. Its unique location in the "Lake Region"
of Southern Orange County at the foothills of the Catskill Mountains
offers the charm of a clean suburban/rural countryside within easy
driving distance of New York City. The community has traditionally
offered outstanding support for the school district. Quality education
is a major community priority.
